Short Bio (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salmiaton Ali)

Salmiaton Ali joined Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1999 as a lecturer in the Dept. of Chemical & Environmental Engineering, UPM since 2004. She is awarded as Associate Professor in 2008. Previously, she worked as a chemist in Permint Minerals Sdn. Bhd., gold mine company in Terengganu for almost 4.5 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1994 from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York (USA), and a Doctorate (PhD) in Chemical Engineering in 2003 from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UK). She is currently a Professional Technologist (PT18030477) and an Associate Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE: 9907253).

As an academician, Salmiaton's research interests are in the areas of environmental and chemical engineering namely waste recovery, waste treatment and minimization, recycling, catalysis, energy and fuel recovery from waste. Currently she supervises 2 PhDs and 2 masters in similar disciplines. Salmiaton has published more than 60 publications in cited international journals, refereed journals and proceedings related to environmental and chemical engineering.


Salmiaton currently leads two research funding namely Methanation of CO2 over Mesoporous Ni-Based Carbon Coated Monolith Catalyst and Constructed Wetland for Removal of Hydrocarbon from Industrial Wastewater. She also led other projects such as Waste Reduction of Fat, Oil and Grease from Medan Selera, Pasar Besar Melaka, Development of a Reliable Model for Fluidized Bed Catalytic Gasification of Lignocellulosic Biomass, etc. (see Project section)
