Energy and Environment

Energy and environment focuses on various aspects including energy and sustainable development, energy conversion, conservation and management, environmental education and training, etc. In this context, the research focuses on syngas generated from gasification process. Syngas consists mainly H2 and CO with small amount of CO2 and CH4. Various appropriate catalysts are developed for Fischer-Tropsch process to convert syngas into fuel and another for methanation process to convert syngas into methane. 1 PhD student was graduated in 2019 for Fischer-Tropsch research and 1 PhD student is going to complete by early next year on Methanation. Some of published work related to this area are as follows:

Sorption Technology

Most sorption technologies act like a sponge or a filter, soaking up contaminants until they run out of surface area. Sorption is a common treatment in remediation processes for industrial wastewater, contaminated water as well as gas emission. Sorption is the common term used for both absorption and adsorption. Sorption can be physical, chemical or biological process by which one substance becomes attached to another. 3 PhD students and 1 MEE student were graduated. Waste-to-Wealth

The concept of Waste-to-Wealth literally means moving waste from a platform of exhausted utility to valuable and desirable level. Its transformation in engineering, requires some form of energy, and in economics requires factor of production. In this context, the research focuses specifically on recycling the waste generated such as biomass, waste cooking oil, fats, oil and grease (FOG) and plastic waste and converting them into fuel, energy or other value-added products. Two methods are emphasized namely gasification and pyrolysis with the assisted of catalyst for clean energy, better yield and selectivity. 3 PhD students and 2 MSc students were graduated.
